Pewabic Co-Founder Memorial Monument
Pewabic Co-Founder Horace James Caulkins was laid to rest in Elmwood Cemetery on the Eastside of Detroit in 1923. Elmwood Cemetery is the oldest continuously operating, non-denominational cemetery in the state of Michigan.
Co-Founder Mary Chase Perry Stratton designed this limestone monument to pay tribute to her longstanding business partner and friend. This memorial features Pewabic Tile panels inset in the flanking piers. The centerpiece features a vase in one of Pewabic’s signature flowing-matte-style green glazes.
We ask for visitors to be mindful of other guests and this space when visiting Elmwood Cemetery.
