Classic Vases | Elm
These Classic Vases featuring the Elm glaze have never before been featured online! The rich, matte green color would look perfect with winter greens and bright florals.
In the early days of Pewabic, founder Mary Chase Perry Stratton sketched shapes for her vessel thrower Joseph Heerich, to throw on the wheel. Stratton would then apply slip or other decorative applications to the surface, much like the Classic Vase finish.
Elm Glaze
During Pewabic’s earliest days, the most popular glaze was a matte green color that seemed to flow across the surface of the vessels, getting caught in the raised lines of the designs and showcasing the movement of the vases’ surface. Over the years, whether due to changes in mineral availability or fabrication practices, our glaze team has formulated and reformulated new versions of this glaze. With its matte finish and variable green hues, the Elm glaze is our current iteration of this historic legacy.
