Pewabic’s 48^th Annual Staff & Student Exhibition

A celebration of the artists who shape Pewabic

Each year Pewabic exhibits the outstanding work of its students and staff members. Hailing from varied backgrounds and all over the world, Pewabic's students and staff all learn here. They progress, experiment and grow under the chipped tile roof that is Pewabic's historic building. They are all makers and mentors.

This year’s juror, Kenyon Hansen, is a full-time studio potter in Dollar Bay, Michigan. He has been a resident artist at the Archie Bray Foundation and Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts. In 2013 he was selected as an Emerging Artist by Ceramics Monthly.

Kenyon has taught at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, Arrowmont School of Crafts, Penland School of Crafts, and Greenwich House Pottery in New York City. He has led workshops at numerous universities and art centers throughout the United States. His pottery has been exhibited nationally and internationally and can be found in homes all over the world. Currently, Kenyon is a visiting artist at Finlandia University. Read more about Kenyon on our blog.

This silver metallic sculpture is a long necked creature with soft features similar to a rabbit. The creature has two sets of gentle ears and its long, curvy neck comes from a slightly wider rounded base.

Not in the Mood

This small, irregular round vase has strips of blue and white floral patterns - some small and some large - that look almost stitched together.

Ode to Rose

This shallow, wide bowl sits on a tall ornate stand made up of round gears and riveted domes all glazed in a patina of greens and grays.

Family Tree

These two organic, rounded white shapes open to show a dark gray interior. One object opens like a clam shell with a definite top and bottom, while the other is more circular with a cavern of dark grays at its core.

Line Weight Objects I, II

A small black platter holds five shiny black vases- they are smooth and curved. Nestled between them is a white vase with a speckled surface.

Form and Space I

This tall sculpture is shaped like a skinny volcano with straight sides that get wider as steps of gilded clay are added to its surface. It is colored in yellows and browninsh grays.

Bayou

This is a small white cup with modern lines creating an eight sided-opening.
