In this class taught by Pewabic Slip Casting Specialist/Tile Pressing Technician, Josh Kochis, students will use the basic principles of mold-making for tile as a starting point for working with liquid clay. Multiple applications of the casting process will be covered, including the production of simple vessels, handles, and ornamentation. Each student will receive the practical experience necessary to conceptualize ideas, create models, fabricate working molds, and produce multiples of their designs.
Who should take this class?: This class is best suited for students who have a base knowledge of ceramics/one part mold making and would like to learn the more advanced techniques of slip casting.
Class includes:
- 3 hours of weekly instruction (during scheduled class time)
- Glazes, slips, underglazes, and firings
- A small studio shelf
- 3 open studio opportunities a week (schedule posted)
- The first 25 pounds of clay
Please note: Purchases are not transferable. No refund will be issued during the first week of class. The Pewabic Education Studio is under no obligation to reschedule classes that are canceled upon the closure of the facility due to inclement weather, power outages, misunderstanding of schedule, Covid shutdown, and/or personal schedule shifts. There is no guarantee that a make-up class will be offered. Classes will not be prorated to accommodate a missed class, nor will refunds be issued.
