Take your ceramic practice to the next level with our new Four-Week Intensives, guided by talented ceramic artists from our studio and broader community.

Four-Week Intensives include:

  • 3 hours of weekly instruction (during scheduled class time)
  • Glazes, slips, underglazes, and firings 
  • A small studio shelf
  • 3 weekly open studio opportunities (schedule posted)

Each intensive offers a unique focus and tailored materials. Be sure to check the specific section for details on what’s included and what to expect from your chosen session. Spaces are limited, so don’t wait—reserve your spot and immerse yourself in this focused learning experience. Intensives are exclusively available for students aged 18 and older.

WINTER 2025 INTENSIVES:

INTENSIVE SESSION I

Glazing Basics

Instructor: Michelle Durham

Dates: January 10 - January 31 (4 weeks)

Time: Friday afternoons from 2pm - 5pm

Price: $180

Description: Build confidence in cone 6 glazing and achieve better results with your work. This intensive focuses on the essentials and advanced skills of dipping, pouring, brushing, and surface decoration. Through lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on practice, you’ll refine your techniques and elevate your glazing outcomes.

Important Details

  • This class does not cover work construction or firing
  • Prior ceramic experience and bisqueware are required
  • Also includes: testing of tiles + vessels, a glazing journal, and your first 25lbs of clay

Who Should Register?
Ideal for ceramicists looking to deepen their understanding of glaze application and methodology. Bring your bisqueware and get ready to take your glazing skills to the next level.

INTENSIVE SESSION II

Advanced Wheel - "Throwing Big"

Instructor: Joy Kin (They/She)

Dates: February 7 - February 28 (4 weeks)

Time: Friday afternoons from 2pm - 5pm

Price: $180

Description: Led by Pewabic Wheel Thrower Joy Kin, this intensive focuses on mastering the fundamentals of throwing large-scale vessels and advanced refining techniques.

  • This class does not cover beginner basics
  • Reserved for intermediate to advanced wheel-throwing students
  • Also includes: your first 25lbs of clay

Who Should Register?
Designed for intermediate to advanced throwers who can center, pull walls, trim, and glaze successfully.

INTENSIVE SESSION III

Introduction to Ceramic Jewelry

Instructor: Cassidee Downs

Dates: March 18 - April 8 (4 weeks)

Time: Tuesday evenings from 6pm - 9pm

Price: $200

Description: Led by Pewabic Glaze Technician Cassidee Downs, this class teaches adult students how to create unique jewelry from clay and colored clay. Explore various handbuilding techniques to craft beads and charms, and learn decorating, glazing, and firing methods to complete your pieces.

Who should register?

This intensive is best suited for those who have worked with clay before, but would like to learn the basics of jewelry making.

INTENSIVE SESSION IV

Colored Clay Technique

Instructor: Mitch Segall

Dates: April 15 - May 6  (4 weeks)

Time: Tuesday evenings from 6pm - 9pm

Price: $200

Description: Discover how to transform clay into vibrant colors using stains. Over this four-week course, students will learn to mix stains into clay, create test tiles, and craft a stunning Nerikomi masterpiece.
