The Bee Necklace features a high-relief bee with wings outstretched. The hand-painted iridescent glaze gives it black stripes and a black head while the rest of the bee features the gold Blush Iridescent glaze. The bee is smooth and shiny and its wings are attached to the silver chain.
Up close, the bee's iridescent glaze is reflective, making the colors change depending on the lighting.
The bee necklace is held up against a black painted brick wall.

Based on a historic Pewabic design, our charming bee pin is the perfect spring accessory. During the Great Depression, Pewabic Co-Founder Mary Chase Perry Stratton pivoted her focus to small vessels and jewelry that directly inspired our current collection. Animal forms such as this were created for consignment, primarily to a gallery in New York during World War II. This Pewabic classic has buzzed its way right into our hearts! May your sunny days be sweet as honey.

Iridescent Glaze

Many consider the Iridescent glaze to be Pewabic's most important contribution to ceramic art. Through trial, error, and sheer persistence, Mary Chase Perry Stratton developed her first successful Iridescent glaze in 1906. Establishing the formula and stabilizing the firing process took another three years.

Today our Iridescent pieces are fired somewhat similarly, though with safer materials. It requires a third firing and a process called fuming, when vegetable oil is injected into the kiln to create the extraordinary one-of-a-kind effects.

Rebel Nell

Pewabic is excited to partner with Rebel Nell to create our ceramic necklaces. Once our pendants are handcrafted by Pewabic artisans, they are taken to the creative designers at Rebel Nell who finish the process by adding sterling silver, adjustable chains.

Started in 2013, Rebel Nell‘s mission is to provide employment, equitable opportunity, and wraparound support for women with barriers to employment through their jewelry designs. This is achieved through close partnerships with Detroit 501(c)(3) nonprofits COTS and T.E.A.
