Mooncake Paperweight | Two Tone
Mooncakes are small, round pastries traditionally enjoyed around the Mid-Autumn Festival in Chinese culture. Designed by Pewabic Marketing Manager Frances Ma, this tile is a tribute to her father, Hin-Long Ma, who would bring home the tasty treats to share with his family. The centerpiece of the Mooncake tile is the Wufu symbol, or the “five blessings,” which represents well-wishes for health, wealth, long life, love of virtue, and a peaceful death. As one of five brothers, this symbol held special significance to Hin-Long.
Frances says, “For me, food was the primary bridge to my Chinese heritage. I hope people connect with this design, regardless of their cultural background. After all, food and art are meant to be shared!”
