This Thistle Tile was designed by Pewabic co-founder Mary Chase Perry Stratton likely for Kirk in the Hills during its construction. Thistles have significance within Scottish belief systems, and are often found in churches there. As Kirk in the Hills has Scottish connections, you can find the thistle symbolized in tile, woodwork, and other mediums throughout the church.
